Although taxis and rental cars are not available in the immediate Copper Canyon area, they are available in the neighboring cities of Los Mochis and Chihuahua.
Many people who come to Copper Canyon choose to fly into the airports of either Los Mochis and Chihuahua. Los Mochis is closer to the canyons, but Chihuahua has the larger airport. Taxis are available at both of these airports for transportation to the city. There are numerous taxi companies in both of these cities, and cabs can be found at major public areas such as train stations, and airports. Fares in these cities are not metered. Instead, they are determined by distance traveled. This is supposed to be standard and based on zones, but this is not always the case. Make sure to agree on a price before starting a journey. Because many drivers do not speak English, it is a good idea to take along a map with the desired destination circled.
Rental cars are available in both Los Mochis and Chihuahua as well. Driving is a good way to travel through Mexico, as it allow one to see the passing countryside that is otherwise missed. Also, having a personal vehicle makes getting to the canyons much easier. However, before deciding to get behind the wheel of a car, check out this Driving in Mexico page.
