Sligo’s nightlife is similar to most major cities in Ireland and drinking is still a favorite pastime there.  Travelers will find that there are some excellent dance clubs and also plenty of places to sit down with other tourists as well as with locals from Sligo and enjoy a beer or two.  Some of the favorite spots in the area include:

  • Belfry Pub: www.belfrypub.com . Popular because of smoking facilities in non smoking bars.
  • Crossbar
  • Velvet Room Nightclub www.velvetroom.ie - won nightclub of the year, top class place to go on a Saturday night.
  • Envy www.envy.ie – Travelers trying to find the night club scene will find that this is the place of most interest to them.  It is located on Teeling Street and is easy to find because it is the only place which is bumping and grinding in the area.
  • Fiddler’s Creek: www.fiddlerscreek.ie
  • Foley’s – This is not only a traditional Irish pub but one which frequently has traditional Irish Folk Music played by live bands.  The best nights for this type of entertainment are on Wednesdays and Thursdays but the weekends may also be active.
  • Hargadon Brothers. Recently re-opened. Excellent place for good music free atmosphere snugs and nice pints.
  • Rendezvous
  • Shoot the Crows. Grungey if you like that sort of thing , have a double ladies loo, good for alcohol inspired female confidences.
  • Stanford’s Village Inn, in Dromhair, technically in Leitrim, 12 miles from Sligo.
  • Thatch, in Ballisodare, 5 miles from Sligo town.
  • Toff’s,also a night club.
  • Furey's - the traditional pub, owned by members of world touring Dervish, regular traditional/roots music sessions.
  • McLynns- Old Market Street, near the Courthouse.
  • Clarence Nightclub. Recently refurbished. Live music and djs most nights of the week.
  • McGarrigles- O'Connell Street . Slightly grungy but cool crowd. Good music. Trad session once a week.
  • Shenanigans. Sligo's newest late night bar. Dodgy chart music and hen partys downstairs but upstairs with Dj,s Barra pedro and Barron is good at the weekends playing worldbeat, house and an eclictic mix in between.

Travelers will also find that the local hotels of Sligo are often a good bet for drinking and live entertainment, if you are over 50, or have no babysitter.
