Camel Centre, one of the most fantastic tourist destinations in the South of France - called La Maison des Chameaux
On the Haute Pyrenees, Gers border in Castelnau Riviere Basse
Anyone planning a trip to Toulouse, Biarritz, Lourdes or Bordeaux should take a look. Set up by a lovely English family, this farm houses a number of camels and rescue animals. The owners, Paul and Sarah train the camels using the "clicker training method" which is how they train dolphins in Florida - apparently, they are pioneers in clicker training camels.
All the animals are well looked after, there are play areas for children, and later in the year they will be offering trekking and camel rides. What's more it's open all day - and just up the road from Madiran - so you can pop in for some of that famous Madiran wine.
The people know the area well, and are happy to point you to other tourist attractions like Marciac for jazz, and recommend good hotels in the area.
LA MAISON DES CHAMEAUX has a website at www.lamaisondeschameaux.com where you can find a map and details of activities.
