Not counting the Christmas Market or carnival a ranking of Frankfurt's best annual festivals would look somewhat similar to this:

1) Museumsuferfest; with 3 million visitors this is the absolute highlight of fests with a classy, high-brow atmosphere; a 3 mile long cultural event along the Main's promenades, as well as the museums; fantastic live music; artsy stands; great food & clubbing along the Main for young folk; huge fireworks at the end) 29 - 31 August 2008

2) Nacht der Museen (Night of the museums); over 50 museums (and some skyscrapers) open until 2 in the morning for €15 and connected via free shuttle buses; good live music events; 26 April 2008

3) Schweizer Strassenfest (very upscale street festival in Sachsenhausen; expect wine, scampis and prosecco; the best among Frankfurt's street fests); 21 June 2008

4) Berger Strassenfests (more family oriented fest with great live music and good food); dates not yet known for this year

5) Rosenfest Palmengarten; very classy illumination of garden; great food & fireworks; 13 - 15 June 2008

6) Fressgass Fests; there are about 2-3 week-long culinary, wine and other cultural fests on this street all worth visiting especially the wine fest beginning of September (3 - 12 Sep 2008)

7) Luminale 2008; Festival of Lights; Fancy Illumination of Skyscraper, museum, bridges, neighborhoods; 6 - 11 April 2008

8) Opern Platz Festival; culinary fest, good live music on Frankfurt's nicest market square; 13 - 24 June 2008

9) Opern Air; usually mid-July (stars like Avril Lavigne, Seal, B. Adams are to be expected)

10) Bernemer Kerb along the upper Berger Strasse in Bornheim; very traditional, folksy apple wine fest; 8 - 13 Aug 2008

11) Nacht der Clubs; all clubs open with one single ticket; Fall 2008
