Want to meet Santa Claus in person? How about a wild skidoo ride across the Arctic Circle? You have to travel all the way to Rovaniemi for this family-friendly, one-day tour. Here are the highlights of a family’s “Fantasy Day Trip:”
Coming in for a landing in Rovaniemi you catch a glimpse of snow-covered fir trees and a landscape washed in glittering white. Once there, visitors are transported to a huge warehouse where they are outfitted with all-in-one suits, hats, gloves, scarves and snowmobile hats. From there, transportation is provided to the Rovaniemi lakeside by motor coach, then immediate transfers to a skidoo or a skidoo-driven sleigh for a ride across the Arctic Circle! Don’t worry about the cold – participants are wrapped up in warm sheepskins for the half-hour ride through a magical, winter wonderland. Next stop, a husky dog sledge ride, skidoos and downhill dustbin slides for the tots.
Then, enjoy a savory meal of vegetable soup, jacket potato with a meaty filling and cherry pancakes for dessert at a large, warm log cabin.
Next on the agenda is a walk to Santa’s log cabin, where the trees are covered in twinkling lights and the jolly man’s reindeers are freely walking about. The tots get to meet Santa in person and the visit is videoed (included in the price of the trip).
After meeting Santa, head to the Arctic Circle Village and Santa’s Post Office. There are lots of lovely shops in a picturesque setting (with decent quality souvenirs). Now is the time to post your letters and post cards that will be post marked “Arctic Circle” – a great treat for the children!
After a lovely hot chocolate return to the airport for your flight home.
