The vibrancy of Rotorua’s nightlife is not surprising when one considers its popularity as a resort town .

One of the most central hangouts in the area is the Pig and Whistle City Bar, an establishment that boasts live music every Friday and Saturday night, starting at 9:30 p.m. with sets continuing late into the night.  Mostly cover bands, the music here is for fun more than for fine arts, though original pieces are performed now and again.  A bar of nostalgic attraction, rich in dining and entertainment, Pig and Whistle is a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

For those desiring more extravagance and adventure, a stop on the Lakeland Queen cruise ship offers a gorgeous late-night romantic experience…or at least it will upon reopening in the October of this year, subsequent to its current construction upgrade.

Rotorua is acclaimed for its white wines and its pinot, favorite selections in area wine bars and pubs.  Maori culture also lends the region an indigenous nightlife scene, its concert and theater options helping to maintain a diversity of life and entertainment to be experienced once the sun goes down.
