• It is a good idea to keep your passport with you at all times
• Do not conduct transactions, such as money exchange, with people on the street
• Do not place money or bags in a place easy to pickpocket

Hungary is an EU member state, so that other EU citizens may freely come and go.

English and German are widly spoken in Budapest and other larger cities, though it may be scarce in more rural areas.  It is a good idea to learn a few common phrases, such as Please, Thank You, You're Welcome, How much does it cost? and Where is the Bathroom?
