From Windheok, a popular place to travel in Namibia is Swakopmund , which can be very good for families. For the adults, there is really good deep-sea fishing and a nice little casino in town. For those working in the capital Windhoek, the cool ocean air offers some respite from the summer heat. There's not a whole lot to it, but Swakopmund is a clean German-looking town with a holiday feel. This town is also where Angelina and Brad decided to give birth to their daughter Shiloh, renting out the Burning Shore Lodge which lies just between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay .

With small kids, there are numerous parks and refuges to visit. The roads are very well paved and maintained compared to other parts of Africa, although there is some dirt. Renting a car is essential and that makes it good for families since you have the flexibility to stop whenever you want. There are gas stations and small German bakeries in the tiniest towns along the main roads which make it very convenient. Etosha National Park is one of the best Wildlife Parks in Southern Africa and there are plenty of accommodations available that kids will love. It is possible to camp and cook yummy boerewors on an open fire or enjoy the lodges with swimming pools.

On the coast, kids will find the sand dunes are fun to climb and roll down; for older children, a fun activity is sand boarding . Parents should keep in mind however, the water is not ideal for swimming since it can be very cold. Regardless, the shipwrecks along the Skeleton Coast (north) are a must-see for families. Gross Barmen has phenomenal natural springs that have been converted into a swimming pool just north of Windhoek. This is a good and fun place for the family to stop en route to the coast. Since most of Namibia is also malaria-free , it is also convenient since one does not need to have the children medicated before arriving here.   Essentially Namibia is an ideal playground for the family to celebrate nature and the surroundings.
