Pokhara is established by pokhariya family but now they are shifted to Uttrakhand in Dangti,Dugra & Dokuna villages according to B.D.Pant .(Although the history of the region where Pokhara is situated is a long history, the history of Pokhara itself takes place primarily in the twentieth century.  This is because the geography of Pokhara is such that getting to the area was difficult until modern modes of transportation had been invented.  Prior to the middle of the twentieth century, the area could only be reached by mule on an arduous journey which lasted one to two weeks.  There were people living in the area at this time, but they were a small community about which only a small bit of information is known.

At the end of the 1960’s, the first road was introduced to the area.  This was the beginning of modern history for Pokhara; it was the beginning of tourism in the area.  The tourist industry first developed with adventuresome hippie wanderer types making their way to the area in the 1970’s.  They were interested in a simple way of life which could be found in Pokhara at that time.

The tourist industry was centered on the lake.   Because of this, many of the buildings catering to tourists today are built up around this area.   Since tourism is so important to the area, Pokhara developed a tourism council; see http://www.pokharatourism.com/ for more information.
