Lima, three times crowned capital city of Peru, was founded by Francisco Pizarro in 1535.It´s magnificent main square, house to Palace of Government and its 16th century splendid cathedral, are but a little reflection of its glorious past and history. Downtown Lima, is home to some of the most magnificent churches of colonial america (16th-19th century). While visiting, it is important to keep in mind that Lima was the capital city to all of the Spanish Empire in America during the 16th century.
A real cosmopolitan city, Lima is divided in different districts, being the favorite to visitors San Isidro, Barranco and Miraflores with its magnificent restaurants (Lima is the gourmet capital of Latin America), night clubs and bars. For the gourmand, Lima offers the greatest variety of foods in the continent, excellent fresh fish and seafood, Italian cuisine, French, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican and above all, its excellent Peruvian creole makes it paradise to food lovers.
Lima is specially delightful to visit because of the friendly attitude of its people. As every modern capital of today, you have to be careful. Watch for robbers and snatchers so as to avoid complications--dungarees, no jewels, etc.
