Kuala Lumpur is perhaps most well known among average Westerners for its Petronas Twin Towers .  The two 452-meter tall buildings dominate the city's skyline and are in fact the worlds tallest twin towers.  They were also the world's tallest buildings from 1996 until 2003 when the Taipei 101 office building opened, that building being 508 meters tall.  The design of the Petronas Towers, built by Argentinian-American architect Cesar Pelli, was inspired by the Five Pillars of Islam.

The builings are owned and occupied by the Petronas Corporation , a multinational oil and natural gas company.  The towers are also home to an aquarium, a concert hall, and a fountain park.
