Incline Village is home to the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center located at 291 Country Club Dr off of Route 28.   The Research Center houses an Interpretive Center which is geared to both children and adults.  The Interpretive Center houses screens that explain the ecology of the lake .  Especially novel is the 3D theater where visitors can "travel" the entire Lake Tahoe basin .  There is a small display on the building itself which has Platinum LEED status for being an environmentally sound structure.   During the summer of 2007 the Interpretive Center is host to a NASA exhibit which is especially interesting to children.

Around  Lake Tahoe, there are three historical museums that will give you an idea of the rich history of the region. At Gatekeeper's Museum, know about the natural history of Lake Tahoe, become acquainted with the original dwellers and read the European pioneers' stories. Located at 130 W. Lake Blvd in Tahoe City, the museum is housed in a Gatekeeper's cabin (a reconstruction of an original one). For details about the museum including its calendar of events, check out its website at  http://www.northtahoemuseums.org.

Located at 5205 West Lake Blvd. in Homewood,Tahoe Maritime Museum tells the story of the vessels navigating Lake Tahoe beginning with the steamers that took passengers, mail and cargo around the lake in the nineteenth century. These ships as well as old racing boats from the early twentieth century; a huge collection of outboard motors; and old aquaplanes and water skis are among the many water artifacts being exhibited (the museum is a box full of surprises for the maritime fan). For more details, check out the museum's website at: http://www.tahoemaritimemuseum.org.

Finally, stop by Watson Cabin in Tahoe City to have an idea of pioneer life in the beginning of the twentieth century.
