A Bar/Restaurant near the Lower Greenville and Knox/Henderson area that's been around for well over a decade. It's been a popular place for media types (sports) and local politicians. Drawings of old customers adorn the walls and it's a good place to catch a local game. Decor is non-existent and casual ... this isn't a fancy place. Lots of regulars go to the place and a number have their own drink names ... Diva Tini, ManSoCran to name a few, all the drinks are excellent though ... they don't have a large wine selection, but you'll find the major types. Louie is Greek and it's a family run business. It is reminiscent of a Chicago restaurant in attitude and the staff's patience can be a little short and no nonsense as it can be very busy, but this is part of what people like about the place.
The Pizza is the best in town, actually voted best pizza by D Magazine. Thin crust with lots of toppings. Pork chops, Chicken and Steak are good too. Louie's mom makes the desserts. Don't pass up a chance for the French Silk Pie or any of the others...very very good.
Can't smoke in Louie's due to Dallas Ordinances, but great chance to meet a bunch of people outside. The neighborhood looks worse than it is...don't leave anything in your car visible and you should be okay. After 8PM you can park in the Check Cashing place across the side street and if your lucky a place up front and right across Henderson is some parking...otherwise you will need to park in the back in the school/dentist office parking. Usually not a problem back there, but keep the valuables in the trunk.
Louie's is a good hole in the wall place with great food and an excellent place to hang out without having to dress up.
Also, Louie's only takes American Express and Cash. He doesn't want the electronic credit card machines required by Visa/MC.
Update: Check cashing place is gone and being replaced by a new Asian place. Look forward to trying it out...when it opens you will need to park behind or in front of Louie's. Along the street is available as well.
