Mount Trashmore - If you’ve had all the sand you can stand, you might like Mt. Trashmore for a change.  Why is it called Trashmore?  Take a guess. That’s right.  It’s built from a landfill of garbage and dirt.  You’d never know it to look at it.  It’s the perfect place for flying a kite.  There are picnic shelters, walking trails, 2 lakes for fishing, a skateboard park fit for inline skaters and BMX bikes as well as skateboards.  Kids Cove is a fort and playground, handicapped accessible.

Norfolk Tides  - A quick 20-30 minute trip West on 264 will take you to the beautiful Triple A ballpark for the Baltimore Orioles (formerly the farm team for New York Mets).   The water view in right field gives a picturesque setting (but it can also make for a chilly night with the wind blowing in!)  It's a great family event, complete with on the field antics by Rip Tide and chances to catch t-shirts thrown into the stands.  Fireworks nights are always popular.

Back Bay Wildlife Refuge  - When the fast pace of resort living is about to close in, escape to Back Bay.  Here is where you can find peace among Loggerhead turtles, Snow and Canada Geese, Bald Eagles, Piping Plovers, Peregrine Falcons.  Here is a place for hiking, biking, canoeing, and fishing.

Pick Your Own - Virginia Beach has strong rural roots.  Today many farmers still offer pick your own grapes, strawberries, blueberries.  The Pungo Strawberry Festival during Memorial Day is a major event for the town with only one traffic light with an understandable-but-worthwhile traffic snarl.
